„Tag des offenen Denkmals“

“Preserving monuments together” is the theme of the European Heritage Day which will take place on 11 September 2016 throughout Germany. Its programme offers opportunities to visit buildings, monuments and sites, many of which are usually not accessible to the public. Numerous points of interest can be also visited free of charge in the Ulm region.

More than 8.000 historical buildings, parks and archaeological sites will open their doors to the general public on the “Tag des offenen Denkmals” on 11 September 2016. Following the motto “Preserving monuments together”, visitors can experience how much dedication is necessary to save the architectural heritage from deterioration. The aim is to raise public awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and to arouse interest in the preservation of monuments.  
 
The museums of the Administrative District of Neu-Ulm can be visited from 11 am till 6 pm. In addition, special guided tours in the Roggenburg Abbey Museum and Archaeological Park will be offered. The admission to all events will be free of charge. Fifteen monuments will open their doors to the visitors in the Alb-Donau-District. Ice Age caves, churches, hospital and chancellery buildings as well as technical cultural monuments can be visited. Many of these buildings are usually closed or only partially accessible to the public.

The flyer “Tag des offenen Denkmals” published by the City of Ulm includes ten sites: the Ulm School of Design, former Officers´ mess, Reduit of the Upper Danube Bastion, a residential building in the Büchsengasse, the Ochsenhäuser Hof, Salzstadel, "Engländer", Minnesängersaal in the Grüner Hof, Fort Friedrichsau as part of the federal fortress und the Ulm Minster.
