Whether a particularly hip party, avant-garde art or traditional public holidays: those with a diverse range of interests are spoilt for choice here in the Ulm Innovation Region. Window-shopping, dreaming, listening to music, dancing, admiring and watching. You can enjoy this region on the Danube and Iller rivers with all your senses - all year round.
Here is a small extract from our comprehensive calendar of events:

The Ulmer Zelt

Every summer, the audience in the Ulmer Zelt (Tent) enjoy a colourful potpourri of hand-picked program items. Established artists and many promising newcomers, cabaret artists, musicians and music ensembles form a never-ending stream at this cultural festival in the Friedrichsau.

The Schwörwoche

This traditional Ulm public holiday, the Schwörmontag ("Oath Monday"), is initiated with an evening serenade of lights on the Danube. The Schwörmontag is always the next Monday to last in July. This is the day on which the City Mayor must account for the actions over the past year and renew his oath on the city constitution dating from 1397. In the afternoon, the "Nabada", or in High German: "Hinunterbaden" (Going down to bathe) takes place. In a procession on water, hundreds of large and small boats move down the Danube, not infrequently commenting on the political situation as they do so.

The Einstein-Marathon

The world-famous Albert Einstein, born in Ulm, has lent his name to its annual marathon. The Minster, featuring the highest church tower in the world, forms an impressive backdrop to the finish line. More than 16,000 runners started the 11th annual run in September 2015.

The International Danube Festival

The Donaufest (Danube festival) takes place biannually on the banks of the Danube flowing through Ulm and Neu-Ulm. Artists and visitors meet during these ten days, generating a colourful mixture of regional specialities, music styles and dances. A most lively meeting point for different cultures.

Sommerbühne at the Blautopf

This very special mixture of culture, music and comedy attracts over 10,000 visitors annually. An open-air festival in Blaubeuren, this event remains unrivalled. Superb artists become inspired by the mystic flair of the "Blautopf" karst spring.

The Ehinger Jazztage

Jazz is the watchword at the Danube town of Ehingen every year on the second weekend in October: at the Ehinger Jazztagen (Jazz days), international jazz celebrities appear in a never-ending stream. Jazz concerts in the Lindenhalle, in pubs and restaurants, a jazz church service and a jazz matinee: those who love jazz music can listen to their heart's content for three consecutive days.

The Schwäbisch-alemannische Fasnet

On Epiphany Day, the fools of the Swabian-Alemannic "Fasnet" carnival held in Dietenheim, Ehingen, Munderkingen and many other locations in the Ulm Innovation Region dust down and don their costumes. Earthy witches, devils and ghosts travel in a carnival procession through the localities. Old traditions such as Fasnetsausgrabung (Carnival unearthing) Narrenbaum-Aufstellung (Putting up the fool's tree), Weiberfasnet am "Glombigen Doschdig" (Wenches' carnival on the Thursday) and the historical Narrensprung (Fool's jump) are the main highlights.
